Abstract:

(a) A medium oil which comprises hydrocarbons as the main ingredient and in which the number of paraffinic carbon atoms is 70% or more of the total number of all the carbon atoms, (b) a medium oil which comprises polybutene as the main ingredient, (c) a medium oil which comprises as the main ingredient a mixture of hydrocarbons represented by the formula (1) CH¿3?-C(CH¿3?)¿2?-[-CH¿2?-C(CH¿3?)¿2?-]¿n?-CH¿2?-R [wherein R is -CH(CH¿3?)¿2? or -C(CH¿3?)=CH¿2?, and n is 1 to 10], (d) a medium oil which comprises, as the main ingredient, hydrocarbons obtained by the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, (e) or a medium oil which comprises, as the main ingredient, branched paraffinic hydrocarbons obtained by the hydrogenolysis of hydrocarbons obtained by the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis; and a process for producing dimethyl ether which comprises using the medium oil.
