Provided is a medium processing device comprising: a drum; a main tape that is fixed to the circumferential side face of the drum at one end and that winds, by way of rotation of the drum, a medium onto the circumferential side face with the medium sandwiched between the main tape and the circumferential side face; a main reel on which the main tape is wound; a first roller that redirects the main tape pulled from the main reel at a location separated from the drum and then moves the same closer to the circumferential side face; a second roller that pulls away the main tape, redirected by the first roller and travelling along the circumferential side face, from the circumferential side face and then redirects the same toward the circumferential side face again and that transports the medium to and from the circumferential side face with the medium sandwiched between a portion of the redirected main tape and a portion of the main tape redirected by way of the first roller; an auxiliary tape that is fixed to a location on the circumferential side face that does not overlap the main tape at one end and that winds the medium onto the circumferential side face in at least a pull-away region in which the main tape is pulled away from the circumferential side face by way of the second roller; and an auxiliary reel on which the auxiliary tape is wound.
