Abstract:
Provided are a medium transport device and inkjet printer which make it possible to stabilize the tension imparted to a band-shaped medium in comparison to the prior art. A medium transport device (20) equipped with: a winding mechanism (40) for winding a printing medium (90); a tension-imparting member (50) capable of imparting tension to the printing medium (90) as a result of the weight of the section of the printing medium (90) not wound around the winding mechanism (40) pressing in a rotation direction indicated by an arrow (10c) with an axial line (50a) as the center; and a compression coil spring (71) for imparting a load onto the tension-imparting member (50) in a direction indicated by an arrow (10d) which is the direction opposite the rotation direction indicated by the arrow (10c). Furthermore, the compression coil spring (71) imparts a greater load to the tension-imparting member (50) as the angle (θ) of the tension-imparting member (50) with the axial line (50a) as the center increasingly becomes an angle at which the tension imparted to the printing medium (90) by the weight of the tension-imparting member (50) increases.
