Abstract:
Provided is a medium transporting device that comprises: a load body that has a bundle transporting face on which a medium bundle, which is a plurality of media collected and bundled, is loaded and transported; a Russell body that has a contacting portion that comes into contact with the medium bundle; a moving unit that causes the medium bundle on the bundle transporting face to advance along a first direction or a second direction opposite to the first direction by causing at least a portion of the Russell body to come into contact with the medium bundle and moving the Russell body in the first direction or second direction along the bundle transporting face; and a transport state switching unit that switches, by way of the moving unit moving the Russell body, to a first transport state that allows transport in the first direction by causing at least a portion of the Russell body to come into contact with the medium bundle on the second direction side or to a second transport state that allows transport in the second direction by causing at least a portion of the Russell body to come into contact with the medium bundle on the first direction side.
