Abstract:
In this member joining method, a tubular first member 10, a second member having a hole therein, a tube-expanding pressing element 31 for expanding the first member 10, an elastic member 33 comprising an elastic material, and a mandrel 32 for expanding the tube-expanding pressing element 31 outward are prepared. The tube-expanding pressing element 31 is subsequently arranged within the first member 10, the elastic member 33 is arranged between the first member 10 and the tube-expanding pressing element 31, the first member 10 is inserted in the hole 21 in the second member 20, the mandrel 32 is pressed into the tube-expanding pressing element 31, the tube-expanding pressing element 31 is thereby pressed outward and expands, the first member 10 and the elastic member 33 are made to expand outward as a result, and the first member 10 and the second member 20 are joined. In this way, breaking and local deformation of the first member 10 during shaping by tube expansion and deformation of the hole 21 in the second member 20 are minimized, thus providing a member joining method that makes it possible to relax requirements relating to the shape precision of the tube-expanding pressing element 31 and the press-in amount precision of the mandrel 32.
