Abstract:
This membrane reactor (4) comprises a separation membrane complex (1) and a catalyst (41). The separation membrane complex (1) comprises a separation membrane (12) and a porous support (11). The catalyst (41) promotes a chemical reaction of raw materials. The support (11) is of a columnar shape that extends in the longitudinal direction. The support (11) has formed therein film-formation cells (i.e., first cells (111a)) that opens at both longitudinal ends. The separation membrane (12) is disposed on the inner surface of the first cell (111a). The catalyst (41) is disposed within the first cell (111a) of the separation membrane complex 1. The ratio of the average particle diameter of the catalyst (41) to the inner diameter of the fist cell (111a) is not less than 0.75 but less than 1. Accordingly, as mentioned above, it is possible to minimize breakage of the separation membrane (12) due to the difference in thermal expansion rate or the like between the catalyst (41) and the separation membrane complex (1).
