Abstract:
The present invention makes it possible to perform highly reliable data reading by maintaining a sufficient margin that separates resistance states in a resistance variable memory. The memory includes a plurality of memory cells with each cell representing either a first or a second value. A read-region identification information storage unit stores read-region identification information for identifying a region from among a plurality of regions with mutually different reading references where a reading reference is used to isolate cells by whether they contain the first or the second value. A reading request unit identifies the region from among the plurality of regions on the basis of the read-region identification information, and requests the memory to read the region in accordance with the reading reference for the identified region.
