Abstract:
Disclosed is a metal air battery (11) which is a secondary battery comprising a positive electrode (12), a negative electrode (13), an electrolyte layer (14) and an air inlet tube (15). The positive electrode is an almost closed-bottom cylindrical porous member, and comprises a positive electrode support part (121) composed of alumina, a positive electrode conductive layer (122) composed of a perovskite-type oxide having electrical conductivity and a positive electrode catalyst layer (123) composed of manganese dioxide. The negative electrode comprises a negative electrode support part (131) composed of a stainless steel and a negative electrode conductive layer (132) composed of lithium or a lithium alloy. In the metal air battery, the positive electrode catalyst layer is formed on the positive electrode conductive layer composed of the perovskite-type oxide, and therefore it is possible to provide the positive electrode that does not contain carbon. In this manner, the generation of lithium carbonate on the positive electrode can be prevented during discharging and the voltage to be charged into the metal air battery can be reduced.
