A process for the production of metal catalyst carrying carbon/ethylenediamine composites, characterized by reacting carbon carrying a metal catalyst with ethylenediamine in water or a liquid mixture of water with a water-soluble organic solvent; a platinum-carrying carbon/ethylenediamine composite which consists of platinum-carrying carbon and ethylenediamine; processes for the production of hydroxylamines and aminoaromatic compounds having unsaturated hydrocarbon groups with a platinum catalyst containing the composite; an osmium-carrying carbon /ethylenediamine composite which consists of osmium-carrying carbon and ethylenediamine; and a process for carbonyl-selective reduction of carbonyl compounds with a catalyst containing the composite.
