Abstract:
The invention provides a metal oxide support carrying thereon a metal cluster made by using a dendrimer, in which the cluster is suppressed in the surface diffusion or sintering on the surface of the support; and a process for the production thereof. The process comprises (a) making ions of the first metal coordinate to a dendrimer (10), (b) reducing the ions coordinating to the dendrimer (10) to precipitate a cluster (6a) of the first metal in the dendrimer (10), (c) making additionally ions (8) of the second metal coordinate to the resulting dendrimer (10), and (d) drying and firing the obtained dendrimer-containing solution on an metal oxide support (9). The second metal forms the same metal oxide as the one constituting the support or a double oxide. In the metal cluster carrying metal oxide support of the invention, the cluster (6a) of the first metal is held by the oxide (8) of the second metal present on the metal oxide support (9).
