Abstract:
[Problem] The present invention addresses the problem of providing a method capable of efficiently providing a metal-coated glass fiber and a metal-coated glass fiber bundle the thickness of a metal coating in the metal-coated glass fiber being uniform in a circumferential direction of a glass fiber, and a metal-coated glass fiber bundle that is suitable as a glass filler. [Solution] This method for manufacturing a metal-coated glass fiber comprises bringing a glass fiber drawn from a bushing nozzle of a glass melting furnace into contact with a dome-shaped or substantially spherical metal melt exuding from a hole part of a melting furnace for a metal for forming a metal coating layer, wherein the method for manufacturing a metal-coated glass fiber is characterized in that two hole parts are formed in a wall surface of the melting furnace for the metal, two droplets of the metal melt are exuded so that end parts thereof are in contact with or superposed on each other, a glass fiber proceeding downward passes through a cavity point formed by the two droplets, the glass fiber is brought into contact with both of the two droplets, and the glass fiber is coated with the metal.
