Abstract:
Provided are a novel catalyst component having superior polymerization activity for production of a polymer and a copolymer of an α-olefin, particularly a polymer having a high molecular weight, and a method for producing a polymer and a copolymer of an α-olefin using the catalyst component. Provided is a metal complex characterized by being obtained by causing a compound represented by general formula [I] or [II] to make contact with a transition metal compound containing a transition metal belonging to group 9, 10, or 11 in the periodic table. [In general formulae [I] and [II], R1, R2, R3, and R4 each independently represent (i) hydrogen, (ii) a halogen, (iii) a linear alkyl or the like having 1-30 carbon atoms and optionally having a group selected from the group consisting of heteroatoms, heteroatom-containing groups, etc., or (iv) OR9, etc. R5 and R6 each independently represent a linear alkyl group having 7-30 carbon atoms and optionally having a group selected from the group consisting of heteroatoms, heteroatom-containing groups, etc. E1 represents phosphorus, arsenic, or antimony. X1 represents oxygen or sulfur. In general formula [I], Z represents hydrogen or a leaving group, and m represents the valence of Z.]
