Abstract:
A metal cord for reinforcing a rubber article and a method of manufacturing the cord. In the metal cord formed of three to five metal filaments, the penetrance of rubber therein is increased without lowering compression rigidity and also the apparatus cost and manufacturing cost thereof can be reduced. In the method, a filament bundle (6) is formed by wrapping one metal filament (2) around the other metal filament (1), and the filament (6) is twined with the remaining one metal filament (3) at a strand pitch P to form the metal cord (7) formed of three metal filaments. In the method of manufacturing the cord formed of four metal filaments, two sets of the filament bundles are formed and twined with each other. Also, in the method of manufacturing the cord formed of five metal filaments, one metal filament is further added to these two sets of filament bundles and they are twined with each other.
