Abstract:
Provided is a silicone-based copolymer which, when applied to a ship, exhibits excellent long-term antifouling effect even in a dry-wet alternate portion or in a portion near the surface of the water, and which has excellent mechanical strengths and recoatability. The silicone-based copolymer can attain high antifouling performance even when no antifouling agent is added. Also provided is an antifouling coating composition that contains the copolymer. The silicone-based copolymer is a metal -crosslinked organopolysiloxane-thio block vinyl copolymer [D] obtained by crosslinking an organopolysiloxane-thio block vinyl copolymer [C] with a divalent metal [M], said copolymer [C] comprising a carboxylic acid-containing vinyl copolymer block [A] composed of both constituent units derived from a polymerizable unsaturated carboxylic acid (a1) and constituent units derived from at least one other polymerizable unsaturated monomer (a2) copolymerizable with the carboxylic acid (a1) and a specific organopolysiloxane-thio block [B].
