Abstract:
Provided are a metal material and connection terminal that are resistant to sulfide blackening even with the surfacemost exposure of an Ag-Sn alloy layer. Also provided is a method for producing a metal material that is capable of producing the provided metal material. A metal material 1 has a substrate 11 and an Ag-Sn coating layer 14 that coats a surface of the substrate 11, wherein the Ag-Sn coating layer 14 contains Ag and Sn, Ag-Sn alloy is exposed at the surface, and the average crystal grain diameter in a cross section parallel to the surface of the Ag-Sn coating layer 14 is less than 0.28 µm. In addition, a metal material 1 has, on a surface of a substrate 11, an Ag-Sn coating layer 14 that contains Ag and Sn and has Ag-Sn alloy exposed at the surface and is produced by forming a metal layer containing Ag and Sn on the surface of the substrate 11 and heating at a temperature greater than or equal to the melting point of Sn.
