Abstract:

A metal melting apparatus comprises a metal melting furnace (10) for melting a metal stock with flames from an oxygen burner (11), which uses an oxygen as a support gas, and an oxygen supply equipment for supplying to the oxygen burner (11) an oxygen being a support gas. The metal melting furnace (10) comprises a melting section (12) provided with the oxygen burner (11), a preheat section (13) provided above the melting section (12) for preheating the metal stock, and a throttle section (14) provided between the melting section (12) and the preheat section (13) and having a smaller inner diameter than those of the melting section and the preheat section. The oxygen supply equipment is a variable pressure type adsorption separation device (30) which uses an adsorbent for preferentially adsorbing nitrogen in the air and supplies to the oxygen burner (11) an oxygen having a low oxygen concentration of 65 to 94 %.
