Abstract:
A metal member with a through hole and a method of manufacturing the metal member capable of stably performing, at low cost, an operation to form the through hole (5c) in a swelled part (7a) formed by elastically deforming a part of a metal tube (3) in the radial outer direction at the portion of its side wall (14) where its plate thickness is gradually changed. A slide tool (13b) is retreated into an extraction hole (12a) while a liquid pressure is applied to the inside of the side wall (14). The tip face (20a) of the slide tool (13b) is recessed at a portion facing the portion of the side wall (14) where its plate thickness is rather large. The degrees of the advancement of sharing for the portions of the side wall (14) matching the both side edges of the extraction hole (12a) the instant that the slide tool (13b) starts to retreat are differentiated from each other by this structure. Then, the portions of the side wall (14) matching the extraction hole (12a) can be securely extracted from the side wall (14) in the form of a punched-out piece (10c) at a same timing starting at the shearing to a breakage.
