Abstract:
It is possible to realize highly sensitive Raman scattering sensing by controlling the distance between metal nanoparticles for enhanced Raman scattering and thereby controlling in particular the enhanced field intensity of the particles in order to impart very strong Raman scattering properties. A metal nanoparticle material for molecular sensing is provided comprising a metal nanoparticle aggregate in which metal nanoparticles are joined by way of organic molecules to bond three to ten metal nanoparticles such that there is a predetermined distance between adjacent nanoparticles. The aggregate contains Raman active molecules within the field applied to the aggregate. Enhanced Raman scattering light is generated from the Raman active molecules in the enhanced field. A method for producing the metal nanoparticle material for molecular sensing and a molecular sensing that uses the metal nanoparticle material for molecular sensing are also provided.
