Abstract:
A metal powder containing at least two metal elements each of which forms a phase having the metal element as its main component, characterized in that arbitrary two of the metal elements exhibit the absolute value of the difference in their standard oxidation−reduction potentials of 778 mV or more. The metal powder can be used for decomposing a variety of types of organic halides including those being difficult to be decomposed by the use of a conventional decomposition means and for clarifying a soil, a ground water or the like containing such organic halides. Methods for clarifying a soil by the use of this metal powder include incorporating this metal powder for decomposing organic halides into the soil by agitation and mixing, and methods for clarifying a ground water by the use of this metal powder include providing a reaction wall containing this metal powder for decomposing organic halides in the ground.
