Abstract:

Provided are a device and method that can easily change the width of an active refractory metal slab that is smelted using an electron beam smelting furnace. The metal slab manufacturing device that uses electron beam smelting is configured from a metal smelting section and a metal extracting section that can be separated by an atmosphere blocking valve. The metal smelting section is configured from a smelting chamber, an electron gun, a hearth, a variable width square mold and the atmosphere blocking valve. The metal extracting section is configured from a slab chamber, a draw bench, a draw shaft, and a drawing driver device. The metal slab manufacturing method uses said manufacturing device. Prior to the width of the square mold that makes up the square mold being changed, the metal slab formed in the square mold is drawn out of the square mold and then short-sided mold walls that make up the square mold are moved.
