Abstract:

(Meth)acrylic acid is stabilized through removing of any impurities tending to deteriorate the storage stability thereof and the polymerization stability at the use of (meth)acrylic acid as a raw material in polymerization. The total concentration of C₈-C₁₀ aromatic hydrocarbons in the (meth)acrylic acid composition is reduced to less than 2 ppm. This (meth)acrylic acid composition can be obtained by crystallizing (meth)acrylic acid from a crude (meth)acrylic acid composition containing the above aromatic hydrocarbons, sweating the (meth)acrylic acid crystallized, and isolating (meth)acrylic acid remaining as a crystal after the sweating operation.
