Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for activating a catalyst for chlorine production used in a reaction for oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen, which comprises a step wherein a catalyst for chlorine production having decreased activity is brought into contact with an acidic liquid. Also disclosed is a method for producing chlorine, wherein chlorine is produced by oxidizing hydrogen chloride with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst for chlorine production that is activated by the above-described method. The acidic liquid used in the method preferably has a pH of not more than 5, and is preferably an aqueous solution in which an inorganic acid is dissolved. In addition, the catalyst for chlorine production preferably contains ruthenium oxide.
