Disclosed are a method and apparatus for adjusting the pressure of a mattress, which adjusts the pressure for each area to allow the user to feel comfortable. The method for adjusting the pressure of a mattress includes: an anterior step of measuring the internal pressure before the user lies down on the mattress in which cells having a sealed inner space filled with a fluid are disposed on at least two areas thereof; and a posterior step of measuring the increase in internal pressure of each of the cells, which is generated when the user lies down on the mattress; and an average pressure adjustment step of adjusting an amount of fluid introduced into each of the cells of the mattress on the basis of a pressure change value generated due to the difference between the internal pressure of the cell detected in the anterior step and the internal pressure of the cell detected in the posterior step.
