Abstract:
Provided in the present disclosure are a method and an apparatus for configuring a port of a port extender, which relate to the field of communication technology, and are used for decreasing the bandwidth occupancy of forwarding configuration messages between a CB and a PE, and reducing the influence thereof on existing data forwarding. The port configuration method of the present disclosure comprises: receiving a user's port configuration request, the port configuration request comprising the identifier of a to-be-configured port extender, the identifier of a to-be-configured port of the to-be-configured port extender, and a port configuration parameter; generating a port configuration message according to the port configuration request, the port configuration message comprising the identifier of a cascade port corresponding to the to-be-configured port extender, the message identifier of the to-be-configured port, the port configuration parameter and an operation command code; sending the port configuration message to the to-be-configured port extender, so that the to-be-configured port extender configures the corresponding port according to the port configuration message. The present disclosure is mainly used in vertical stacking techniques.
