Abstract:
A method for controlling an automated vehicle having an engine and a controller for controlling the operation of the engine. If the host vehicle has a preceding vehicle ahead, this method for controlling an automated vehicle sets a required driving force according to intervehicle distance, predicts the behavior of the preceding vehicle on the basis of circumstances ahead of the preceding vehicle, and performs a sailing stop to automatically stop the engine while traveling at a predefined vehicle speed or faster on the basis of the required driving force and the predicted behavior of the preceding vehicle.
