The embodiments of the present application provide a method and apparatus for publication of a video file, used for a server, said method comprising: obtaining a video file to be published; selecting a first preset quantity of video frames from the video file to be published; generating a target video file from the selected video frames; determining a target display position of the target video file in a video preview interface; storing a correlation between the target display position and the target video file, such that a first terminal logged in to the server plays, according to said correlation, the target video file at the target display position in said video preview interface. Hence, since the first terminal plays the target video file at the target display position in the video preview interface, a user may learn, from the target video file, more information related to the content of the video file to be published, thus improving user experience.
