Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for estimating motion. The apparatus for estimating motion can include: a first register for storing first start position information and search position information using a mask scheme; a second register for storing second start position information and distance information from a second start position; a controller for receiving commands and generating a shift enable signal, a selection signal, and a process element group(PEG) enable signal on the basis of the information in the first register, or the information in the second register, according to the received commands; a shift unit for shifting to output reference data in the search area of a reference frame in response to the shift enable signal, or outputting the received reference data without any change; a selection unit for selecting to output a portion of the data output from the shift unit, or outputting the entire data; a processing element (PE) array for receiving current data on a current frame, and including a plurality of PEGs for operating in parallel with the current data and output data from the selection unit in response to the PEG enable signal; and a comparator for comparing a plurality of operation results to each other, and outputting an optimal operation value and a motion vector at each position.
