Abstract:
Referring to figure 5, there is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention comprising of two spatially opposed emitter detector pairs. Configurational geometric information of individual articles can be determined from a difference in signals reflected from an article measured simultaneously by each pair of emitter detectors located on opposite sides of the said flow. The emitter Figure 5(a) at one side of the article preferably emits signal of a known characteristic Figure 5(a'), reflected by the passing article such that the reflection Figure 5(b') from the article Figure 5(e) is measured by a paired detector Figure 5(b). In concert, the emitter Figure 5(c) at the opposite site of the article Figure 5(e), preferably emits signal of a known characteristic Figure 5(c'), reflected by the passing article such that the reflection Figure 5(d') from the article Figure 5(e) is measured by a paired detector Figure 5(d). Each measurement comprises a time based signal response for the area of the article in the field of view of the emitter detector pair at the time of measurement. Subsequent time based measurements are taken as the article passes in front the emitter detector pair building a line of distance measurements to construct a surface profile lines for a section of the surface facing the said emitter detector pair.
