Title:
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING BIO-COMPATIBLE CONCENTRIC CIRCULAR FUNCTIONALLY GRADIENT MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2007/069623
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
This invention provides a method and apparatus for manufacturing a bio-compatible
concentric circular functionally gradient material that, in the production
of a concentric circular composite sintered material comprising titanium and
a biomaterial such as apatite, a composition gradient mixed layer is formed in
an intermediate layer to prevent cracking during sintering and the mixed layer
can be easily molded. A Ti powder (A) for a center part is filled into a first cylindrical
partition body provided upright on a support base. Thereafter, a second cylindrical
partition body having a larger diameter than the first cylindrical partition
body is provided upright on the outer side of the first cylindrical partition
body. A mixed powder composed of the powder (A) for a center part and a biomaterial
powder (B) for a surface layer part is filled into between the first and second
partition bodies. Next, the same procedure is successively repeated using third
and fourth cylindrical partition bodies and cylindrical dies to mold a bio-compatible
concentric circular functionally gradient material comprising a Ti center
part, an outer surface part of a biomaterial, and an intermediate layer having
a three-layer structure. Thereafter, the cylindrical partition bodies are
taken out, and the material is subjected to discharge plasma sintering.
