Abstract:
A sensor (24) for measuring volumetric concentration of a slurry flowing in a pipeline includes a section of dielectric pipe (26) connected in the pipeline, with a plurality of sensing electrodes (32) mounted around the periphery of the dielectric pipe (26) having their inner ends in contact with the slurry flowing therethrough. Preferably, the inner ends of the sensor electrodes (32) are flush with the inner pipe wall surface. An electrical signal is applied to a bridge circuit that is connected to successive pairs of sensor electrodes (32) round the periphery of the sensor (24) and the ratios of the local conductivity between adjacent pairs of sensing electrodes (32) to the conductivity between a pair of reference electrodes (42) in contact with the liquid are measured and used to compute the slurry concentration between adjacent pairs of sensing electrodes (32).
