Provided by the present invention are a method and apparatus for obtaining a video stream and a server, the method for obtaining a video stream comprising: receiving a signal which is sent by a terminal and is used for obtaining a video stream of a planting device; determining whether a video stream sent by the planting device is currently being received or not; if yes, using the video stream which is currently being received sent by the planting device as a target video stream; if no, sending a stream push command to the planting device so as to use a video stream which is sent by the planting device and is received after the stream push command is sent as the target video stream; and forwarding the target video stream to the terminal, or sending a stream obtaining address corresponding to the target video stream to the terminal, thereby enabling the terminal to obtain the target video stream according to the stream obtaining address. By means of the technical solution of the present invention, it is possible to ensure that each terminal smoothly plays back a video stream captured by a planting device.
