Abstract:
A method of locating a conductive target (105) from a wellbore (102) includes generating a current flowing across an insulated gap (108) in a downhole tool positioned in the wellbore (102), measuring an azimuthal magnetic field (115) with at least one external magnetometer (214) located proximate the exterior of the downhole tool, measuring a secondary magnetic field using a magnetometer (212) disposed inside the downhole tool, computing at least one of a direction and a distance to the conductive target (105).
