The method for overload operation of an ESS of the present invention may comprise the steps of: determining a power absorption target for an ESS by monitoring line wiring through which power is inputted and outputted; calculating the charging limit of the ESS by monitoring a battery of the ESS; generating an overload operation PWM signal according to the amount by which the power absorption target exceeds, if the power absorption target exceeds the charging limit; and causing power inputted to a PCS of the ESS from the line wiring to bypass, according to the overload operation PWM signal, and consuming the power. Here, in the step for generating the overload operation PWM signal, the amount by which the power absorption target exceeds, which is the difference between the power absorption target and the charging limit of the ESS, can be calculated, and the duty ratio of the overload operation PWM signal can be adjusted with the amount by which the power absorption target exceeds the charging limit of the ESS as a reference.
