Abstract:
Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for extracting/separating/collecting
PCB at low cost and in a safe manner for the purpose of treating an insulation oil
having a low PCB content. Specifically disclosed is a method for separating/collecting
PCB from an insulation oil containing PCB at a low content, which comprises the
steps of: (1) mixing the insulation oil containing PCB with an aprotic organic
polar solvent to cause the separation of the mixture into an insulation oil and
a solution of PCB in the aprotic organic polar solvent; (2) adding water and a hydrocarbon
solvent to the solution of PCB in the aprotic organic polar solvent and agitating
the mixture to cause the separation of the mixture into water, the aprotic organic
polar solvent, and a solution of PCB in the hydrocarbon solvent; and (3) collecting
the hydrocarbon solvent from the solution of PCB in the hydrocarbon solvent and
also collecting/separating PCB from the solution. Also specifically disclosed
is an apparatus for use for the method.
