Abstract:
An expansion device (30), comprising a passageway (33) formed orderly by a tubular inlet portion (31), a tubular throat portion (65) and a tubular outlet portion (66), with a closing element (60) arranged in the throat portion (65), the closing element adapted to cause a Joule-Thomson expansion and cooling of an at least partially gaseous fluid (3) that is supplied at a predetermined pressure (P1), where in the inlet portion (31 ) a direction means (41 ) is provided for directing the fluid (3) according to a flow direction (35) that is generally at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis (32) of the inlet portion (31), in order to reduce the friction of the at least partially gaseous fluid (3) when flowing through the throat portion (65) at the closing element (60), in order to approximate the transformation to a reversible isentropic transformation more closely than what is possible with the known lamination valves. In particular, the direction means (41) is adapted to impart to the at least partially gaseous fluid (3) a swirling movement. A method and an apparatus (100) for carrying out a partial liquefaction of an at least partially gaseous fluid (3) that is supplied at a predetermined pressure by expansion and cooling according to the Joule-Thomson effect, comprising an expansion device (30) according to the invention, in particular a method and an apparatus (100) for separating at least one hydrocarbon liquid with two or more carbon atoms from a gas that contains such hydrocarbon and methane, in particular a natural gas or similar gas.
