This invention relates to a method and apparatus for replenishing a processing fluid for performing processing such as development, bleaching, fixing, etc. of a photosensitive material which has been exposed to rays of light transmitting through an original document or original picture or by rays of light reflected by the original document or original picture. This invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining the replenishing quantity of a processing fluid and supplying it on the basis of at least one of the conditions including the image ratio and variable magnification when the photosensitive material is exposed, a mass processing condition which is set in accordance with the number of sheets of the photosensitive material to be processed, the shutdown time of the processing apparatus of the photosensitive material and the non-processing time of the apparatus for processing the photosensitive material during its operation. When the processing fluid is to be replenished, the replenishing quantity of this fluid is determined on the basis of the conditions described above that affect the replenishing quantity of the fluid. Accordingly, optimal processing conditions for the development, bleaching, fixing, etc. of a photosensitive material can be maintained and finish after processing can be made uniform. In this manner an excellent image can always be obtained.
