Abstract:
Method and apparatus for seaming containers is described, together with a double seam joining a flange of a container body and a container end wall. The method and apparatus use a chuck wall with a lip portion (130), which is increased in height and a second operation seaming roll (117) with a flat face. The minor changes to the seaming tooling (106, 117) enable the formation of double seams from a standard pressed end of thin gauge and low temper steel and a double reduced steel container body, which is substantially free of wrinkles.
