Abstract:
A method of and an apparatus for reliably and thermally sterilizing the interior of a PET bottle (20) of a low thermal resistance without causing the thermal deformation thereof to occur, the method comprising injecting steam from a steam injection nozzle (42), which is inserted from an inlet (2l) of the bottle (20) into the interior thereof, into the bottle, and circulating the resultant steam in the interior of the bottle (20) and then discharging the same from the inlet (2l) to reliably bring the steam into contact with an inner surface of the bottle and thermally sterilize the same with cooling water sprayed onto an outer surface of the bottle to prevent the wall surface of the bottle from being thermally deformed.
