Disclosed are a method and apparatus for transmitting channel state information, for use in resolving the problems of increased complexity of eNB decoding, increased power consumption and decoding errors due to different quantities of antenna ports configured for different CSI-RS resources in the prior art. The method comprises: a terminal determines first bit numbers used in BI and RI combination coding, the BI being used for indicating sequence numbers of resources that are corresponding to the RI obtained in terminal measurement and that are used for transmitting reference signals, and first bit numbers used in the RI and BI combination coding corresponding to the resources used for transmitting the reference signals being same; and the terminal performs, according to the first bit numbers, combination coding on the RI and BI obtained in the measurement, so as to obtain coding information, and sends the coding information.
