Abstract:
An apparatus for treating a surface of a tool, wherein a first electrode (120) is fixed to an angle indexing unit (121), a surface of the first electrode (120) being modified to a predetermined shape by the electric discharge machining by a second electrode (131) or by machining by a second tool which are joined fixedly to a vertically driven main shaft (112), the second electrode (131) or the second tool and a first tool (110) which are joined fixedly to the main shaft (112) being changed by an automatic tool changing unit, the first electrode (120) being indexed to a predetermined angle of rotation by the index unit (121), an edge of the first tool (110) being opposed to the surface of the first electrode (120) with a narrow clearance left therebetween, to generate electric discharge while moving the first tool along and relatively to the surface of the first electrode (120), whereby a hard film is formed on the edge of the first tool (110).
