Abstract:
The present invention describes a method to evaluate quantitatively the wear level of a conveyor belt, detect perforations and tearing on its surface and predict the appearance of failures. The proposed method ensures a quantitative evaluation of the physical characteristics of the conveyor belt, particularly but not limited to the evaluation of the length and width of said conveyor belt, for which continuous functions in time are determined. Furthermore, the method comprises procedures to automatically detect sudden events such as the appearance of perforations and tearing caused by sharp edged rocks or any other cutting element capable of causing this type of failures.
