Abstract:

When butt welding by aligning end surfaces (50, 51) for joining a cup member (12a) and a shaft member (13a) and irradiating the outside thereof with a high energy density beam, a weld (49) having a closed cavity on the inside thereof is obtained after butt welding by providing pits (52, 53) on the inside of the surface (51) of the shaft member (13a) for joining. The end surface (50) for joining (protruding surface (50a)) of the cup member (12a) protrudes more to the inside than the inside diameter (E) of the end surface (51) for joining of the shaft member (13a). Thus, the strength and quality of a joined part (74) for an outside joint member (11) of a constant velocity universal joint (10) manufactured by joining the cup member (12a) and the shaft member (13a) can be improved.
