Abstract:
A method of calculating the structure of a foundation batholith, wherein a foundation bottom surface is regarded as a shape model formed of rectangular blocks of quantity n arranged symmetrically with respect to and along the center axis thereof, the position of a neutral axis is determined by solving a linear equation and a tertiary equation led from the equilibrium conditions of forces and moments acting on the foundation bottom surface. The linear equation provides a solution when the neutral axis is positioned on the outside of the foundation bottom surface, and the tertiary equation provides a solution when the neutral axis is positioned within the foundation bottom surface. The coefficients and constants of these equations are expressed as the functions of the side lengths of the blocks forming a foundation bottom surface model, vertical loads, and distances to the acting positions of the vertical loads and have a specified regularity with respect to n. Based on the position of the neutral axis thus obtained, a ground-contact pressure distribution and a horizontal force distribution can be calculated.
