Abstract:
The invention generally relates to flexible piping used in oil and gas drilling and production and, more specifically, the invention relates to a calibrating method used for monitoring said flexible piping. In one embodiment of the invention, the method is applied to flexible piping which comprises at least one tensile armour layer composed of one or more layers, including at least one helically arranged metallic wire, the flexible piping being mounted in a top connection comprising an inspection window, and the method comprising the following steps: attaching at least one sensor to at least one wire of the tensile armour; inducing a temperature variation in said sensor and in the at least one wire; reading the change in the tension variation at the sensor due to the temperature variation; and identifying a possible fault on the basis of the reading performed.
