Abstract:
Various embodiments provide methods, vehicle computing devices, storage media, and systems for providing position information when broadcasting Broadcast Safety Messages (BSMs), which may include determining an elevation of the vehicle by a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver, determining a quantized elevation value (or a representative elevation value) based on the determined elevation, generating a BSM that includes the quantized elevation value, and broadcasting the BSM for reception by other vehicles. Alternatively or in addition, the vehicle computing device may be configured to use to a group key to encrypt the elevation information that is included in the BSM.
