Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for constructing a jackup rig without the use of a crane, the method comprising: a first step of completing a deck box structure having a self-elevating system; a second step of loading a first leg structure onto the deck box structure; a third step of elevating the deck box structure to a certain height using the self-elevating system and then supporting the lower portion of the deck box structure using a temporary support; a fourth step of lifting the first leg structure to the height of the deck box structure using the self-elevating system; a fifth step of installing a slideway below the deck box structure, using the slideway to slide [or skid] a second leg structure up to the position of the first leg structure under the deck box structure, and then welding the second leg structure onto the installed first leg structure; and a sixth step of repeating the fifth step after lifting the first and second leg structures to the height of the deck box structure using the self-elevating system to thereby complete the installation of the entire leg structure. According to the present invention, it is possible to overcome a limitation on a salvage height since the leg structure of the jackup rig is loaded without the use of a crane, and due to the use of the self-elevating system it is unnecessary to use conventional hydraulic or other lifting apparatuses. Further, conventional aerial work is not required, which facilitates the movement of workers, thus improving work efficiency. In addition, according to the present invention, the upper and lower portions of the deck box structure can be processed at the same time, and thus the overall lead time may be reduced.
