Abstract:
Provided is a method for controlling bearing clearance in a wheel shaft bearing device such that bearing clearance can be precisely and stably controlled. During press-fitting of an inner race (5) into a small diameter step portion (4b) of a wheel hub (4), the press-fitting is stopped temporarily while the bearing clearance is in a positive state, and the axial distance (T0) between the wheel hub (4) in this state and a reference face of the inner race (5) and the initial axial clearance (δ0) are measured; after press-fitting is continued and completed, the axial distance (T1) between the wheel hub (4) and the reference face of the inner race (5) is measured, and the axial clearance (δ1) in this state is determined on the basis of an equation (δ1 = δ0 - (T0 - T1)); these values (δ1 and T1), along with an identification code printed on a per product basis, are transferred and stored to a crimping device and are fed back immediately before the crimping process by matching the identification code; and the axial distance (T2) between the wheel hub (4) after crimping and the reference face of the inner race (5) is determined on the basis of an equation (T2 = δ2 - δ1 -T1) such that the target axial clearance (δ2) is achieved, and the position of the end whereat crimping by the crimping device is to be completed is changed.
