Abstract:
When an automatically stopped internal combustion engine is restarted, the rate of increase of the engine speed of the internal combustion engine is varied according to whether an acceleration pedal is on or off at the time an automatic restart condition is satisfied. If the acceleration pedal is on when the automatically stopped internal combustion engine is restarted, cranking starting is selected (step S5), and combustion is initiated in a cylinder in which the combustion of the internal combustion engine is possible (step S7). If the acceleration pedal is off when the automatically stopped internal combustion engine is restarted, motoring starting is selected (step S10), and when air intake pressure is equal to or less than a prescribed value P (step S19), combustion is initiated in a cylinder in which the combustion of the internal combustion engine is possible (step S24).
