A method for controlling a cutting mechanism of a paper-processing device, wherein the downstream edge of a rearmost-end division region (Sr1) is cut, the upper and lower blades (22A, 22B) of a cutting mechanism (22) are kept open immediately thereafter, and a first transportation roller pair (12) is driven at a limited transportation velocity (V2) less than a regular transportation velocity (V1) when a rear-end removal region (Sr) of a paper sheet is finely cut and divided into predetermined finely cut length units (Lr0), and when the length (Lr1), measured in the direction of transportation, of the rearmost-end division region (Sr1), is equal to or greater than a minimum standard length (D1) corresponding to the distance between the cutting position (P1) of the cutting mechanism (22) and a nip position (P2) of the first transportation roller pair (12), but no greater than a maximum standard length (D2) obtained by adding the predetermined finely cut length unit (Lr0) to the minimum standard length (D1).
