A method for controlling a refrigerating and freezing device (1), the refrigerating and freezing device (1) comprising: a casing (10) and a compresionr chamber (100) disposed below the rear of the casing (10), wherein the compression chamber (100) is internally provided with a bottom condenser (103) which is in communication with a compressor (101) so as to cool a refrigeration system, and a side condenser (105) is disposed inside at least one side wall of the casing (10). The control method comprises: acquiring the ambient temperature of the environment in which the refrigerating and freezing device (1) is located; and when the ambient temperature is less than or equal to a preset upper threshold, activating the side condenser (105) to assist in cooling the refrigeration system. The control method may be used to control the side condenser (105) to be controlled to start when necessary, so as to assist in cooling, thereby cooling the refrigeration system by means of both the bottom condenser (103) and the side condenser (105), thus improving the cooling effect and heat transfer efficiency of the refrigeration system.
